Transforming Lives Through Action

Explore our core programs that support children, families, and communities affected by conflict in East and Central Africa.

Watoto Welfare is a foundation based in the Netherlands.

We are child and family focused. We promote community livelihoods and climate resilience by convening businesses, civil society, governments and public-private partnerships to alleviate child hardship. We work with communities and partners to reduce poverty, food insecurity, conflict and social injustice, promote early childhood development and protect natural resources through action and innovation. We believe in an inclusive society where everyone feels empowered to drive development initiatives. We are motivated to unlock the potential of children to lead their future.

Education Support

Access to quality education remains a challenge for children in conflict zones. Our education support program focuses on:

  • Reintegrating out-of-school children into formal education.

  • Supporting local schools with learning materials and infrastructure.

  • Promoting safe, inclusive learning environments.

We believe education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and displacement. By giving children access to education, we empower them with the knowledge and skills they need to build a better future.

Women's Empowerment

Women and girls often bear the brunt of conflict and instability. Through our women’s empowerment initiatives, we work to:

  • Equip women and girls with vocational and life skills.

  • Support income-generating activities for women-led households.

  • Promote gender equality and resilience within communities.

By empowering women, we strengthen families and lay the foundation for more resilient, self-sufficient communities.

School Nutrition Program

Conflict and displacement have left many families unable to provide consistent meals for their children. Watoto Welfare Foundation addresses this challenge by implementing school feeding programs. By offering regular, nutritious meals at school, we aim to:

Reduce hunger and malnutrition among school-going children. Encourage consistent school attendance. Improve learning outcomes and overall child development.

This program ensures that children not only stay in school but also thrive physically and mentally, despite the harsh realities of conflict.
